Director Learning and Assessment IPENZ advises:
IPENZ will be maintaining a specific “register” of Category A Recognised Engineers. This is available at: http://www.ipenz.org.nz/IPENZ/finding/recognised-engineer/
The Regulations published by DBH establish two types of Recognised Engineer – Category A and Category B and specify the competencies required for each. The Regulations also set out the functions of a Category A and Category B Recognised Engineer relative to the Building Act.
Category B Recognised Engineers do not have to be assessed, but are Chartered Professional Engineers who can self declare that they satisfy the requirements of a Category B Recognised Engineer:
- Meets the requirements under section 149 of the Building Act; and
- Has general civil engineering experience
Our Guidelines for the assessment of Recognised Engineers spell this out: http://www.ipenz.org.nz/IPENZ/Forms/pdfs/Guidelines_for_assessment_of_recognised_engineer.pdf
