IPENZ Auckland Branch Awards

The IPENZ Auckland Branch offers a number of awards to engineers and students.

Arthur Mead Environmental Award for Best Project

This is the premier IPENZ Auckland Branch award, presented annually to the best project that addresses sustainability, potential adverse environmental effects, waste management and community involvement. It recognises Auckland Branch Members' significant contributions to preserving, conserving and improving the environment.  

Entry criteria, opening and closing dates, and presentation details
The award is open to current Members of IPENZ Auckland Branch. Applications are called in the early part of the year and close on 28 March. The awards' presentation is held in conjunction with the annual IPENZ President's Visit.

GT Murray Memorial Award for Best Presentation by an IPENZ Student Member on an Engineering Research or Design Project

This award is open to students of the five Auckland tertiary institutions offering engineering courses. It was reinstated in 2012 as a competition between one student from each of these institutions. Presentations are given before an audience and an invited judging panel, with cash prizes for first, second and third place.

Weir-Warman Design and Build Competition

The Branch provides airfares if the winners of the campus finals (students in their second year of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Auckland) are selected to attend the Asia-Pacific finals event.

IPENZ Foundation/Auckland Branch Scholarship for Students from Year 12 or 13 intending to study Engineering at tertiary level the following year

Hume Prize for Best Paper by an Auckland Branch Member (under review)

This award was not offered in recent years. Previously awarded for best paper presented at a Branch meeting during the year by a Branch Member. One cash prize.

Technician of the Year Award (under review)

This award was not offered in recent years. Previously presented to an outstanding student in the final year of the New Zealand Certificate in Engineering at the following institutions: Auckland University of Technology, UNITEC and Manukau Polytechnic. Cash prize.
