Robt Stone Limited
|
| Steel & Tube Holdings engineering division, made up
of Robt Stone & Co and Southern Cross Engineering, is nearing the completion
of its restructuring which is being seen by it as a great opportunity to
further company growth in New Zealand and overseas with the emphasis on
modern solutions for today's engineering challenges.
Robt Stone has gone through a significant revamp over the last 18 months, employing several multidisciplined engineers, managers and supervisory staff. Investment in new plant and technology based equipment has meant improved capabilities in mechanical design, fabrication and project management capabilities. With workshop facilities at New Plymouth, Hamilton and Christchurch, Steel & Tube's engineering division can offer a countrywide service with fabrication facilities in all major centres. Robt Stone & Co is one of Australasia's most experienced mechanical engineering companies, servicing industry for 50 years. From its New Zealand base, Robt Stone & Co specialises in the mechanical design and fabrication of Pressure Vessels, Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers and Process Skids to ASME, BS 500 and TEMA. As an ISO 9001 certified company, Robt Stone & Co has achieved an excellent reputation, both locally and internationally, for safety, technical accomplishment, performance and integrity. The facilities and personnel at the New Plymouth workshop will assure a quality-customised product to meet all client requirements. |
Robt Stone has also built up an enviable reputation for servicing the oil, gas, petrochemical and allied industries. Its expertise includes project management, mechanical design, fabrication, site construction and site maintenance. It also offers a labour supply service, providing clients with expertise across the board, such as piping and fabrication supervision, project engineers/managers and designers. With 50 years experience, Robt Stone & Co continues to develop and is keen to increase its presence in the export sector, as it is competitive, providing a quality product and service of which it is very proud.
Robt Stone & Co is currently erecting the Heat Recovery Steam Generator for Siemens at the Otahuhu power station. The project is progressing well and is approximately 80 percent complete. The majority of the superstructure is finished and the preparation and assembly of the pipework is well underway. The arrival of the large steam turbine unit heralds further progress. The tube bundles from overseas have now landed, and following some repair work are now being installed.
The safety record on-site is excellent with nil LTIs to date, and the workforce and management team involved are continuing to work hard to keep it that way. With site devised safety procedures, forward thinking IR policies, a drug testing regime and a strict pre-employment procedure, the quality of the workforce at Otahuhu is arguably the best in the country.
Another major contract for Robt Stone is the Marsden Point Tanker Loading Facility for Shell NZ (on behalf of Shell, Mobil, Caltex and BP). The site management team has been appointed, site offices established and some civil work underway. Robt Stone & Co was particularly pleased to win this tender considering the stiff international competition for the work.
In the next year or so Robt Stone is looking to capitalise on its expertise in the cogeneration plants and will be offering EPC/IPP services to the energy industry.
