Milburn Cement - quality products
and technical expertise
|
| From its origins in the deep south, Milburn Cement, then
known as The Milburn Lime and Cement Company, first produced out of Pelichet
Bay in 1888.
Emphasis on technical expertise and a dedication to quality has resulted in Milburn Cement becoming a leading cement manufacturer in New Zealand. Milburn Cement intends to carry on and enhance this reputation into the next century by continuing to offer quality products backed by technical support. Quality. Of all the characteristics of cement, uniformity is the most important. Portland Cement has been produced out of our Westport works since 1958. While its strength far exceeds the minimum requirement of NZS 3122:1995, it has been uniformity, both in composition and performance, that has distinguished it. Our underlying commitment to quality was consummated in 1991 when the Westport Works became one of the world's first cement works to obtain ISO 9002 accreditation. By 1994 all Milburn Cement's manufacturing and distribution operations had achieved accreditation. |
Wellington sewage treatment plant, Moa Point
|
When Anglian Water International needed a high durability concrete for the Wellington Sewage Treatment Plant at Moa Point, it found the answer in the form of Duracem. Important issues that needed to be addressed during the project were ensuring low shrinkage, low permeability and resistance to sulphate attack. Like others before it, using Duracem meant it was able to design a concrete that could meet these requirements and handle such an aggressive environment.
"MetaMax", a high reactivity metakaolin admixture, is a product that Milburn is very excited about. Manufactured in the USA, MetaMax is quality assured, refined and highly reactive with similar durability attributes to silica fume. Though relatively new to the New Zealand market, its easy dispersion and lower superplasticiser demand give advantages in fresh concrete properties.
Technical support. It is Milburn Cement's aim to distinguish itself in the marketplace as a manufacturer and supplier that offers unparalleled technical services and support. As a group company of "Holderbank", the world's largest cement manufacturer, Milburn has access to the latest developments and technologies from around the world. The Milburn Cement technical team is headed by Ian Brown and Jeff Smith. Ian (Technical Services Manager) has worked in a range of technical roles within Milburn for fifteen years. Jeff (Technical Sales Manager) joined Milburn last year, coming from 25 years experience in the concrete industry, including postings in England, Australia, Saudi Arabia and Papua New Guinea.
In recent times Milburn Cement has become increasingly involved in liaising with purchasers of cement regarding usage issues and also with specifying engineers, regarding performance requirements. Jeff's recent appointment reflects a commitment to serving these growing customer requirements.
Milburn Cement has a proud history and a strong future. With a continuing commitment to providing quality products, backed by technical support, Milburn Cement will continue to be a major cement manufacturer.
