New Zealand Engineering 1998 JunepeopleClear Communications has appointed Tim Cullinane its new chief executive. Mr Cullinane was managing director of ICL before moving on to Forestry Corporation in 1990. The Telecommunications Users Association has confirmed the election of five new members to its board. They are: Graeme Osborne, chief information officer of Southern Cross Healthcare (treasurer); Jane Hindle, data services manager at Clear Communications; Mike Stobbs managing director of Virtual Technologies; Chris Marshall; Janiene Bayless, a business consultant. Peter Allport has been appointed chairman of the Commerce Commission. He has been deputy chairman since July 1995 having first been appointed to the Commission in June 1992. Much of Mr Allport's career was spent in engineering projects in many countries of the world, mainly in the food processing industry. He resigned from Goodman Fielder in 1989 to form Alpega Management, which he still operates. Beca Carter Hollings & Ferner has appointed two new members to its board. They are Bob Durrant, managing director of International Food and Beverage Services Ltd (a Beca subsidiary), and Management Services divisional director, Ian Bull. The new Dean of the Engineering School at Auckland University, Peter Brothers, believes that working with industry gives academia the resources it needs to be free. In the United States Professor Brothers was most recently director of Strategic Program Implementation at a division of Johnson Controls. While in this position he was on the industrial advisory boards of several American universities and believes a similar mechanism might be investigated for the Auckland faculty. Mainzeal Property and Construction has appointed Chris Hunter manager of its Auckland area business, responsible for the company's three divisions in the Auckland area: construction, mainworks, interiors.
