Pertronic Industries of Lower Hutt has developed a new analogue addressable automatic fire alarm system designed to reduce false alarms and lower maintenance costs. It is designed for small to medium sized buildings and complies with NZS 4512 1997. Phone 0-4-567 3229.

A new swipe door locking system and guest safes are being marketed by Andotek Systems of Auckland. The card reader prevents dust accumulation and damage caused by the insertion of foreign objects. The lock memorises the last 300 operations, prints out time/date/guests or staff name, and has a capacity for up to 10,000 rooms. A new steel mesh for residential, commercial and industrial security applications has been patented by Mastermesh Industries in Sydney. The mesh offers the performance and advantages of steel - exceeding the load requirements of AS/NZS-2803.1.94 by approximately 200 percent. The NZ Heavy Engineering Research Association (HERA) has been involved with the establishment of the NZ Stainless Steel Development Association. Two pilot projects are proposed to develop the stainless steel industry. The first is a regular promotional news letter highlighting local capabilities, new applications and overseas trends.
