Cisco Systems Inc and Microsoft Corp have announced a new programme to help customers deploy a combination of their products to achieve high performance gateway and application integration between Microsoft Windows operating system-based solutions and IBM-compatible mainframes. Telecom has introduced the following developments; XTRA opens the Internet for shopping, ie. a package for businesses to build, design, manage and run a store online; a new enhancement to its ISDN (integrated services digital network) service has been added - DDI (direct dial in) - which extends the service from primary to basic rate customers; a new frame relay service with ISDN access has been launched; XTRA has launched two new products for customers - Global Roaming (global email access) and single number access for ISDN numbers.

CLEAR Net has introduced two new services that will enable small business customers to simplify their Internet communications. These enhancements offer full backend support for Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Frontpage.

Tuanz (Telecommunications Users Assnof NZ) is treating its conference and exhibition as two events this year; two occasions to provide information and educate the public on important telecommunications issues.
