Snorkel Elevating Work Platforms of Auckland has developed a snorkel telescoping boom which can be used instead of traditional scaffolding. It has a reach of 17 metres, a working height of 22 metres, 180° hydraulic platform rotation, and a platform capacity of 227kg. A new exterior insulated foam system (EIFS), Poly-Clad has been manufactured by Fosroc Ltd of Petone. The new system has full BRANZ fire rated approvals, and consists of polystyrene board, either extruded or expanded. Belle Banne Flexco Pty Ltd of Australia has developed a new rivet hinged belt fastener. The Flexco R2 fastener fills the gap between light and heavy duty fasteners to suit the most demanding medium duty conveyor applications like timber industry and concrete batching plants. The Building Industry Authority has released a two-part document that invites public comment on suggested amendments to the Building Act. The document aims to update the "dangerous and insanitary buildings" provisions of the Act, especially those relating to earthquake risks. Copies of the document are freely available from the Authority (PO Box 11846, Wellington), and the closing date for comment is 30 April 1998.

ESDU International plc has developed a Data Item (No 96015) Design and Material Selection for Dry Rubbing Bearings. The data item describes the use of the ESDU computer program A9615 for the selection of materials for dry rubbing bearings.
