Fosroc New Zealand
Fosroc New Zealand - the right chemistry
Company profile
Fosroc New Zealand was formed in the 1991 merger of Expandite and Fosroc, and is New Zealand's largest producer of construction chemicals. The company is part of Fosroc International, one of the largest and most respected construction chemical companies in the world, and is backed by the British multinational Burmah Castrol Group.

From its base in Wellington, Fosroc has provided materials for most of the major civil engineering structures and large buildings constructed in New Zealand over the last forty years and is looking forward to more growth and expansion in the future. When asked for the secrets of Fosroc's success to date, chief executive Jeremy Rowson says "Fundamentally, we succeed because we supply reliable products that people can depend on, we provide first class technical support to designers and builders and we are constantly innovating, bringing new products and systems to meet the needs of the New Zealand construction industry. Specifiers and construction customers know that they can depend on Fosroc for products, expertise and prompt assistance. Our reputation in these areas makes it hard for others to compete against us."

The right products

Fosroc has probably got the largest range of construction chemicals products in New Zealand including sealants,
adhesives, grouts, flooring products, concrete repair systems, waterproofing products, and protective and decorative coatings. The best known products include Silaflex MS, the only BRANZ appraised sealant in New Zealand, which was used recently on the Sky Tower in Auckland and the Parliament Buildings in Wellington; Conbextra GP, the shrinkage compensated grout used on the 150 shock absorbing bearings supporting Te Papa (the Museum of New Zealand); and the Renderoc range of cementitious and epoxy concrete repair mortars.

Innovation is one of the keys to maintaining leadership in a competitive and technically driven industry so Fosroc is constantly on the lookout for breakthroughs to benefit its customers. Examples of innovative products and systems launched recently include Nitoline, an epoxy coating used to rehabilitate the internal surfaces of water pipes, and Norcure, a non-invasive and non-destructive electrochemical system for desalinating and realkalising concrete structures.

Innovation at Fosroc also extends to manufacturing. Fosroc New Zealand was recently the first company in the southern hemisphere to install a Schwerdtel cartridge packing machine. This allows the company to produce short runs of silicone sealants in any colour, to match the aesthetic requirements of the most demanding architects and clients.

The right people

No company can flourish without the right people and Fosroc prides itself on the calibre of its staff and the training it gives them. Barry Gibson, National Sales Manager, says "Our sales force have to understand the technical attributes of our products, how they can be used and both their advantages and limitations. Many of our products are used in critical applications and both specifiers and contractors rely on us for the right advice. But reliability is not just about products, it's also about good delivery, good communications with customers and other aspects of customer service. "In particular, we pride ourselves on the quality of our technical support function which includes our Technical Department, headed by Dave Moginie, and our Technical Services Manager Robin Barnes in Wellington. We also have Alistair Allan in Auckland and Jeff Hawker in Christchurch, both qualified engineers, giving local advice to specifiers and customers."

The right coverage

Fosroc's head office and factory is in Petone, Wellington, and the company also has branches and warehouses in Auckland and Christchurch. In addition, representatives are based in Hamilton, Tauranga and Dunedin. This national coverage means that Fosroc can combine international experience with local expertise to meet the specific needs of any construction project.

© 1996 - 2010 IPENZ
