Name of Event:
IPENZ Risk Analysis for Engineers - Engineers @Risk! - Hamilton

Description:

Risk Analysis for Engineers –

Engineers @Risk!

This one-day workshop is specifically designed for engineers who wish to familiarise themselves with some of the more commonly used risk analysis software programmes. Participants will be given a broad overview of existing packages (accompanied by appropriate exercises) before engaging more extensively with ‘@Risk’, a risk analysis software package that integrates seamlessly into MS Excel.

Course Content:

The course is designed around a series of presentations and case studies, and is the second in a series of professional IPENZ workshops focusing on risk management. The first workshop in the series focuses on general risk management techniques, based on the recently published introduced international Risk Management Standard (AS/NZS ISO31000/2009). In contrast, the present course focuses on Risk Analysis. This course is ‘stand-alone’ but general familiarity with the new and improved standard, or with the preceding one (AS/NZS 4360:2004), is an advantage.

There will be ample opportunity for active participation in terms of exercises and discussions.

Requirements
You will need a laptop loaded with Windows 2000/NT/ME/XP/Vista/7 and MS Excel. You will be supplied with any additional required software prior to the workshop.

The content will cover:
  •  A brief overview of AS/NZS ISO31000/2009
  •  A focus on Risk Assessment – Identification, analysis and evaluation
  • An overview of existing software packages in relation to the different phases of the Risk Management process
  • An introduction to @Risk: Getting serious about quantifying uncertainty
  • Case Studies and Exercises

By the end of the day, participants will have:
  • An understanding of the risk assessment process.
  • A broad understanding of the range of software packages that is available to assist the engineer in managing risk.
  • A working knowledge of some of the more commonly used risk analysis techniques and their limitations.
  • A solid introduction to @Risk
This course aligns with elements 7 and 11 of the Competence Standard for professional engineers, engineering technicians and technologists.
