News | Archives Peter Jackson has been elected the Deputy President of the Institution of Professional Engineers (IPENZ) Board. He brings to IPENZ his considerable knowledge of educating young engineers. Peter is currently the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the College of Engineering at the University of Canterbury, and was formally a professor in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Auckland. His experience with engineering graduates enables him to provide support to IPENZ’s current focus on sustaining and developing the profession by promoting a tertiary education in engineering as a career option, and seeking wider involvement of younger engineers in IPENZ. “I support initiatives to increase the number of young people taking up engineering careers, and to make IPENZ Membership more attractive and rewarding for young engineers.” he said. Peter also supports IPENZ’s aim to be more involved with national policies and strategies, not only on technological issues but also on economic and educational development, where it concerns the engineering profession. “I would like to strengthen the role of IPENZ as a key participant
in this process, and to bring about better public understanding of the
spectacular successes of engineering in achieving economic and social
goals,” he said. Background notes Peter Jackson About the IPENZ Board
