| Media Release Waikato Engineering Students win 2005 IPENZ Award Engineering students from Waikato University are this year’s winners of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) 2005 Student Design Award. This award was sponsored by Meridian Energy Ltd.
Launched in 1999, the IPENZ Student Design Award is an annual award and is currently sponsored by Meridian Energy Limited. It is open to all undergraduate engineering students at a New Zealand university or polytechnic. The aim of the award is to recognise engineering excellence at the student level, and to reward innovation and entrepreneurial potential. Both individuals and teams may enter. Prizes include a first prize of $2000 and trophy from a total prize pool of $3000. Entries show the enterprising viability of their design in the form of an executive report, suitable for Directors of a company or investors. Judges are looking for innovative design, investigation of market potential, analysis of financial implications analysed and communication of ideas. The 2005 Student Design Award were presented at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held at Auckland’s Ellerslie Convention Centre, on Thursday, 17 March 2005.
