Professional Commitment Award
March 2005

Associate Professor Roger Dunn, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, University of Auckland, and Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) has been awarded the 2005 Professional Commitment Award in recognition of his continuing contribution to the profession of engineering, and to the activities of the Institution and to society.

Roger has been employed at the University of Auckland since1972, and has been a great mentor to both students and the wider engineering profession throughout his time at the University. He has been actively involved in various IPENZ technical groups over many years, and he displays the highest skills and attitudes necessary for a professional engineer who is practicing in the community

Roger began his career as an engineer with the Ministry of Works, where he was involved in both road and railway projects. After a period working in the UK, he returned to start work in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Auckland. Roger was primarily responsible for the establishment and development of Auckland’s Transportation Studies course at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

“Being awarded the IPENZ 2005 Professional Commitment Award highlights Roger’s contribution to the profession which has benefited New Zealand as a whole, as the work of our engineers’ impacts on New Zealand society,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.

Roger was presented with his IPENZ 2005 Professional Commitment Award at the IPENZ Awards Dinner to be held at Auckland’s Ellerslie Convention Centre, on Thursday, 17 March 2005.
