Peter Maire, Founder and President of Navman NZ Ltd, has been invited to become an Honorary Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for his eminent contribution to innovation in creation of technological products.

Navman NZ Ltd is a leading manufacturer of world-class marine electronics and Global Positioning System (GPS) technology. Established in 1988, the New Zealand based company employs more than 300 people worldwide and has an annual turnover of $100million.

Through Peter’s leadership, Navman has taken its core expertise in marine GPS technology and moved successfully into other markets, including mobile data, personal and land navigation and OEM manufacturing.

He sponsors engineering student projects at the Universities of Auckland and Canterbury and is a mentor and director of a number of small technology companies.

He was the 2004 Institution of Electrical Engineers (NZ) Prestige Lecturer.

“Becoming an Honorary Fellows highlights the esteem with which the engineering profession holds Peter Maire and his leadership of Navman, one of New Zealand’s foremost engineering companies’s leading the way in GPS technology,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.
