Donald Young elected Fellow of IPENZ
March 2005

Donald Young, Manager Civil Engineering, BECA Infrastructure Ltd, was elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for his contribution to the advancement of engineering practice; specifically recognising his contributions to tunnel engineering.

He has been sought out for a number of major tunnelling projects both within New Zealand and overseas. A key project illustrating his expertise in tunnel project management was the Tokaanu tunnel which passes through geologically unstable ground where ground swelling and high water inflows must be managed. He has actively contributed to IPENZ as a mentor and practice area assessor.

“Becoming a Fellow is an honour bestowed by ones professional peers on high-achievers who have made a difference to the engineering profession. More often than not a Fellows contribution to the profession also benefits New Zealand as a whole, as the work of engineers’ impacts on New Zealand society,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.

Donald was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held at Auckland’s Ellerslie Convention Centre, on Thursday, 17 March 2005.
