John Walley elected Fellow of IPENZ
March 2005
John Walley, Chief Executive, Canterbury Manufacturers' Association,
will be elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers
New Zealand (IPENZ) for his contribution to leadership in the profession
of engineering; specifically recognising his contributions to improving
the economic operating environment for manufacturing businesses.
After a successful career as a leading manager in the manufacturing sector
he has moved to a role where he is recognised as a powerful advocate for
manufacturing businesses.
His passionate and persistent advocacy is assisting to create a policy
environment in which SMEs can grow and prosper through engagement in research
and development and intellectual property commercialisation. He holds
governance roles with Canterprise, Industrial Research Ltd and others,
and in such roles is highly regarded as a strategist.
“Becoming a Fellow is an honour bestowed by ones professional peers
on high-achievers who have made a difference to the engineering profession.
More often than not a Fellows contribution to the profession also benefits
New Zealand as a whole, as the work of engineers’ impacts on New
Zealand society,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.
John was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held
at Auckland’s Ellerslie Convention Centre, on Thursday, 17 March
2005.
