Janis Swan elected Fellow of IPENZ
March 2005

Dr Janis Swan, Associate Professor Department of Materials and Processing, University of Waikato, was elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for her contribution to the advancement of engineering knowledge and the advancement of technological education; specifically recognising her contributions to the development of bioprocess technologies, and the development of process engineering education at Waikato University.

Through a long career as a researcher, initially involved with the meat industry and then more widely, she has established a reputation for academically excellent research of practical value to New Zealand. She has carried the ethos of relevant but rigorous research to Waikato University, where the academic group she led developed an existing science degree programme into a provisionally accredited BE degree programme.

“Becoming a Fellow is an honour bestowed by ones professional peers on high-achievers who have made a difference to the engineering profession. More often than not a Fellows contribution to the profession also benefits New Zealand as a whole, as the work of engineers’ impacts on New Zealand society,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.

Associate Professor Janis Swan, was presented with her Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held at Auckland’s Ellerslie Convention Centre, on Thursday, 17 March 2005.
