Tony Penny elected Fellow of IPENZ
March 2005

Anthony (Tony) Penny, Managing Director, Traffic Design Group, was elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for his contribution to the advancement of engineering practice; specifically recognising his contributions to the development of traffic simulation techniques.

Through his activities traffic simulation techniques are now central to traffic modelling, and simulations have become an integral and expected part of presentations to community stakeholders. His background in mathematics as well as engineering has assisted him to considerably improve many modelling techniques.

Tony’s expertise has been recognised through involvement in many major transportation studies and by a considerable amount of expert witness work. He actively mentors young people, sharing his knowledge with them.

“Becoming a Fellow is an honour bestowed by ones professional peers on high-achievers who have made a difference to the engineering profession. More often than not a Fellows contribution to the profession also benefits New Zealand as a whole, as the work of engineers’ impacts on New Zealand society,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.

Tony was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held at Auckland’s Ellerslie Convention Centre, on Thursday, 17 March 2005.
