Tony Paterson elected Fellow of IPENZ
March 2005
Associate Professor Tony Paterson, Massey University, was elected a Fellow
of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for his
contribution to advancement of engineering knowledge and innovation in
the creation of technological products; specifically recognising his contribution
to development of improved industrial processes.
He is a University researcher who works for the benefit of industries,
and who directly transfers his research results to companies. He has developed
world class expertise on caking and stickiness of lactose and other dairy
powders, and as a result of his research many process improvements have
been made in the dairy industry. He also contributes wider academic leadership
in bioprocess engineering at Massey University, and was an early supporter
of the CREST programme to draw young people into science, technology and
engineering careers.
“Becoming a Fellow is an honour bestowed by ones professional peers
on high-achievers who have made a difference to the engineering profession.
More often than not a Fellows contribution to the profession also benefits
New Zealand as a whole, as the work of engineers’ impacts on New
Zealand society,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.
Associate Professor Paterson, was presented with his Fellowship at the
IPENZ Awards Dinner held at Auckland’s Ellerslie Convention Centre,
on Thursday, 17 March 2005.
