Thomas Neitzert elected Fellow of IPENZ
March 2005

Professor Thomas Neitzert, Associate Dean of Engineering at the University of Waikato, was elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for his for his contribution to advancement of technological education; specifically recognising his contributions to development of engineering education at Waikato University.

After a successful career in the manufacturing sector both in Germany and New Zealand he has led the start-up of manufacturing-related engineering education at Waikato University. He has a commitment to modern product development, and a passion for connecting research and education with industry. He leads by example, including by personally contributing to the local IPENZ Branch committee and linking the emerging engineering school with local industry.

“Becoming a Fellow is an honour bestowed by ones professional peers on high-achievers who have made a difference to the engineering profession. More often than not a Fellows contribution to the profession also benefits New Zealand as a whole, as the work of engineers’ impacts on New Zealand society,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.

Professor Neitzert was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held at Auckland’s Ellerslie Convention Centre, on Thursday, 17 March 2005.
