Melvyn Maylin elected Fellow of IPENZ
March 2005

Melvyn Maylin, Sector Leader Transportation Asset Development, Opus International Consultants, was elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for his contribution to the advancement of engineering practice; specifically recognising his contributions to cost estimation improvements in the roading sector.

He contributed heavily to the steering group for the cost estimation improvement project that led to development of Transit estimating guideline SM014 which has become industry standard practice. He has been appointed as an expert advisor to Transit to foster industry improvement in cost estimating. He also contributes back to engineering education through guest lectures at two engineering schools and is an active mentor.

“Becoming a Fellow is an honour bestowed by ones professional peers on high-achievers who have made a difference to the engineering profession. More often than not a Fellows contribution to the profession also benefits New Zealand as a whole, as the work of engineers’ impacts on New Zealand society,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.

Melvyn was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held at Auckland’s Ellerslie Convention Centre, on Thursday, 17 March 2005.
