Wayne Donnelly elected Fellow of IPENZ
Monday, 28 March 2004

Wayne Donnelly, Chief Executive Land Transport NZ, was elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for his contribution to the application of engineering and technology in the community; specifically recognising his contributions to planning of projects in which there were complex issues to resolve with affected communities.

During his time with the Auckland City Council and Rodney District Council he made considerable progress on what were often controversial projects by applying his engineering approach in parallel with his adeptness for engaging with community representatives.

Wayne’s sensitivity to community issues, plus his knowledge of the role of government agencies and his experience in running large engineering projects aided Transfund to identify ways to increase momentum in the planning of our national transport infrastructure.

“Becoming a Fellow is an honour bestowed by ones professional peers on high-achievers who have made a difference to the engineering profession. More often than not a Fellows contribution to the profession also benefits New Zealand as a whole, as the work of engineers’ impacts on New Zealand society,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.

Wayne was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held at Auckland’s Ellerslie Convention Centre, on Thursday, 17 March 2005.
