Ralph Craven elected Fellow of IPENZ
Monday, 28 March 2004

Dr Ralph Craven, Chief Executive Officer, Transpower New Zealand Ltd, was elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for his contribution to leadership in the profession of engineering; specifically recognising his leadership in resolving issues within the New Zealand electricity transmission system.

In the 22 months since he joined Transpower the organisation has moved quickly to plan major grid expansions, including technology upgrades. This has involved the acceptance by the Transpower Board of significant commercial risk at a time when the needs are pressing but many of the regulatory and control processes for the industry are still evolving. He leads from the front and his excellent communication skills make him an ideal ambassador for the engineering profession.

“Becoming a Fellow is an honour bestowed by ones professional peers on high-achievers who have made a difference to the engineering profession. More often than not a Fellows contribution to the profession also benefits New Zealand as a whole, as the work of engineers’ impacts on New Zealand society,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.

Ralph was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held at Auckland’s Ellerslie Convention Centre, on Thursday, 17 March 2005.
