Dennis Chapman elected Fellow of IPENZ
Monday, 28 March 2004

Dennis Chapman, Technical Director with Enatel Ltd, Christchurch, will be elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for his contribution to the advancement of technological education and innovation in the design of technological products; specifically recognising his contributions to school technology education and his expertise in electronic product development.

He is an outstanding example of an engineer who based a company on his own product developments and grew that company quickly to substantial scale.

He then turned his attention to technology education in schools where he has invested huge amounts of time and money in working with schools, and also travelling to meet Government officials driven by the goal of improving technology education for young New Zealanders.

His efforts in no small way contributed to technology education becoming established in our school system.

“Becoming a Fellow is an honour bestowed by ones professional peers on high-achievers who have made a difference to the engineering profession. More often than not a Fellows contribution to the profession also benefits New Zealand as a whole, as the work of engineers’ impacts on New Zealand society,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.

Dennis was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held at Auckland’s Ellerslie Convention Centre, on Thursday, 17 March 2005.
