Ian Bone elected Fellow of IPENZ
March 2004
Ian Bone, Associate - Transportation, Beca Infrastructure Ltd (Auckland),
will be elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers
New Zealand (IPENZ) for his contribution to the advancement of engineering
practice; specifically recognising his contributions to transport infrastructure
development planning.
He has been a leading professional in transport infrastructure development
planning, transport economics, project economic appraisal and transport
energy utilization for over 30 years, here and the South Pacific and South
East Asian region.
During the 1980s he took a leading role in developing procedures for economic
evaluation of major and minor road improvements.
Since that time he has been called upon on numerous occasions to contribute
to national transport project evaluation procedures by Transfund and others.
His expertise has been internationally recognised through his inclusion
in teams conducting work funded by the Asian Development Bank. He has
a reputation for being an excellent mentor of young graduates commencing
their careers.
“Becoming a Fellow is an honour bestowed by ones professional peers
on high-achievers who have made a difference to the engineering profession.
More often than not a Fellows contribution to the profession also benefits
New Zealand as a whole, as the work of engineers’ impacts on New
Zealand society,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.
Ian was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held
at Auckland’s Ellerslie Convention Centre, on Thursday, 17 March
2005.
