2005 Distinguished Fellows

Four Fellows were promoted to the class of Distinguished Fellow of The
Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for their eminent
contribution to the profession of engineering.
- Neville
Beach has, since 1948, been a Director of Truebridge Callender and Beach.
- Gretchen
Kivell, Head of Hall, Toroa International House, University of Otago
- Norman
Hardie has been a consulting engineer, a mountaineer and an author.
- John
Blakeley, Research Fellow, School of the Built Environment Unitec New
Zealand
“Distinguished Fellowships are given to those Fellows who are identified
by their peers for their outstanding work and eminent contribution in
engineering, technology, science or otherwise,“said IPENZ Chief
Executive, Andrew Cleland.
The Distinguished Fellows were honoured at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held
at Auckland’s Ellerslie Convention Centre, on Thursday, 17 March
2005.
A Distinguished Fellow is a Member who is recognized for his or her eminent
contribution to one or more of the following areas:
- advancement of engineering knowledge
- advancement of engineering practice
- application of engineering or technology for the community
- advancement of technological education
- innovation in creation of engineering works
- innovation in creation of technological products
- leadership in the profession of engineering
- development of the Institution
- other words that are appropriate that the Board specifically approves
