Future Leader 2004 - the new face of the engineering profession says IPENZ

Palmerston North environmental engineer Annette Sweeney is the new face of the engineering profession says the Institution of Professional Engineers (IPENZ).

Annette, who is an IPENZ member, was named the TELECOM/ACENZ Future Leader 2004 last weekend, at an awards dinner held in Wellington on Saturday, 14 August.

Annette works for local firm, Good Earth Matters Consulting Ltd, a specialist environmental engineering, property management, and valuation and resource management consultancy.

“Annette’s win proves she is the new face of the engineering profession. Clearly she is innovative and talented, but her ability to engage the local community to assist in their needs ensures she will do well as an engineering professional” said John Gardiner, IPENZ Deputy Chief Executive.

“This year IPENZ has been encouraging and inspiring our engineers to pursue leadership roles , and were in Palmerston North last month discussing themes of leadership with branch members - clearly this message was not wasted on Annette,” he said.

Annette said she was honoured by her win having worked locally in the Tararua, Rangitikei and Manawatu districts for the past three years, as well as wider afield, providing advice on wastewater treatment and disposal, water supply, environmental monitoring and solid waste management including recycling, minimising waste and residual disposal.

“My work is very much with rural communities helping them work out their requirements in terms environmental standards, and the legislative, and social and economic constraints. As a leader I see my role as guiding the team, clients and communities through this process,” she said.

ACENZ is the Association of Consulting Engineers New Zealand and corporate firms are able to be members. Whereas the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) is the professional body which represents professional engineers from all disciplines in New Zealand.
