| Media Release Fiona Gavriel new Director–Operations for
IPENZ Fiona Gavriel has been appointed the Director–Operations for the
Institution of Professional Engineers (IPENZ). This newly established role will support the infrastructure of the organization and enhance its ability to meet the needs of the IPENZ members. Specifically, Fiona will manage the operational and administrative systems of IPENZ in respect of governance, membership administration, human resources, compliance activities, office infrastructure, information technology, finances and service contracts. Fiona has spent many years in business management and operations, as a contractor and an employee. She was Executive Director of The National Association of Retail Grocers and Supermarkets for three years, a role encompassing everything from appearing before select committees to preparing newsletters and organizing the annual conference. Fiona believes this experience has given her a strong appreciation of the principles that ensure the success of a membership organization such as IPENZ. She says it is essential to ensure the services provided are relevant for members and add value to their business wherever possible. Other roles have included positions in central Government, and in educational
institutions such as The Open Polytechnic and the NZ Management Development
Consortium, which administered a Master of Management programme.
