Russell Burton elected Fellow of IPENZ
Friday, 26 March 2004

Russell Burton, General Manager Science Futures at Forest Research in Rotorua, has been elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for his contribution to the advancement of engineering knowledge and leadership in the profession of engineering; specifically recognising his contributions to the advancement of wood processing technologies, and the development and leadership of chemical engineering societies.

Russell’s career has progressed from being a renowned technical expert on aspects of wood processing to a leadership role in development of knowledge-based businesses using wood processing intellectual property. In addition he has been an outstanding leader of the chemical engineering discipline in New Zealand, serving in a variety of national and international leadership roles including on the Executive of the World Council of Chemical Engineers.

“Receiving a Fellowship carries substantial prestige. It is not a reward for long service or for advancement in seniority with one’s employer, rather it is recognition by IPENZ of the contribution of outstanding individuals,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.

Russell was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held in Christchurch at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, on Thursday, 25 March 2004.
