Robert Daniel elected Fellow of IPENZ
Friday, 26 March 2004
Robert Daniel, Manager Operations for the Westland District Council,
has been elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers
New Zealand (IPENZ) for his contribution to the application of engineering
or technology in the community; specifically recognising his contribution
to development of the West Coat region and its people.
Robert has been a tireless worker for the public good on the West Coast
over more than two decades– through involvement in management of
a number of critical natural hazard events balancing the risk with the
economic need for people to live close to hazards, but also through his
contribution to education. That Westland High School has produced a number
of engineering graduates is testimony to the way in which he has carried
his engineering ethos into his wide-ranging governance and other activities
supporting education. He also has a strong commitment to heritage activities.
“Receiving a Fellowship carries substantial prestige. It is not
a reward for long service or for advancement in seniority with one’s
employer, rather it is recognition by IPENZ of the contribution of outstanding
individuals,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.
Robert was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held
in Christchurch at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, on Thursday, 25 March 2004.
