Richard Martin elected Fellow of IPENZ
Friday, 26 March 2004

Richard Martin was elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for his contribution to leadership in the profession of engineering; specifically recognising his contribution to developing public policy.

After a successful career in the private sector he made the transition to high-level public policy work, spending several years in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet where he provided advice on technology matters.

In 2001 his skill was recognised when he was asked to assist in setting up Industry NZ. On joining the troubled regulatory sector for the building industry he established a new culture in the Building Industry Authority, and is widely credited for the turn-round of that organisation during 2002/2003. His ability to work with Ministers, industry, media and community representatives is outstanding.

“Receiving a Fellowship carries substantial prestige. It is not a reward for long service or for advancement in seniority with one’s employer, rather it is recognition by IPENZ of the contribution of outstanding individuals,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.

Richard was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held in Christchurch at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, on Thursday, 25 March 2004.
