Paul Wilson elected Fellow of IPENZ
Friday, 26 March 2004

Paul Wilson, Dean of Design and Engineering, Christchurch Polytechnic of Technology, was elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for his contribution to advancement of technological education and to the development of the Institution; specifically recognising his leadership in establishing Bachelors of Engineering Technology in New Zealand, and his contribution to CPEng establishment.

Paul led the establishment of the first provisionally accredited BEngTech degree in NZ, and pioneered IPENZ’s international activities under the Sydney Accord. Additionally, he has served two years on the Competence Assessment Board, including as Chair on 2003. His sound judgement and his knowledge of competence assessment processes has been instrumental in ensuring that the new type of competence assessments performed in 2003 have become established with few teething problems.

“Receiving a Fellowship carries substantial prestige. It is not a reward for long service or for advancement in seniority with one’s employer, rather it is recognition by IPENZ of the contribution of outstanding individuals,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.

Paul was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held in Christchurch at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, on Thursday, 25 March 2004.
