Friday, 26 March 2004

Geoff Vazey, Chief Executive, Ports of Auckland, was elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for his contribution to leadership in the profession of engineering; specifically recognising his leadership role in development of a key infrastructure asset.

Geoff’s citation stated: ‘Geoff is the epitome of a business engineer – a person who has taken an innovative engineering approach into the business context and in doing so has transformed an underperforming infrastructural asset into one which positively contributes to the national economy. He has been particularly successful in gaining agreement with various environmental groups and local iwi on a range of new port projects. He has a clear vision for the future of the port infrastructure, a vision he articulates eruditely. He is an Executive of the International Association of Ports and Harbours’.

“Receiving a Fellowship carries substantial prestige. It is not a reward for long service or for advancement in seniority with one’s employer, rather it is recognition by IPENZ of the contribution of outstanding individuals,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.

Geoff was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held in Christchurch at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, on Thursday, 25 March 2004.
