Richard Fright elected Fellow of IPENZ
Friday, 26 March 2004

Richard Fright, Applied Research Associates NZ Ltd (ARANZ), was elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for his contribution to innovation in the creation of technological products; specifically recognising his leading role in the development and commercialisation of 3-D medical imaging.

Richard has in effect created a whole new industry on the basis of his research in this area, developing and marketing 3-D scanning applications for mining and mineral exploration as well as medical purposes. He is an examplar of the entrepreneurial engineer, successfully commercialising the fruits of research for the benefit of industry and of others.

“Receiving a Fellowship carries substantial prestige. It is not a reward for long service or for advancement in seniority with one’s employer, rather it is recognition by IPENZ of the contribution of outstanding individuals,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.

Richard was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held in Christchurch at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, on Thursday, 25 March 2004.
