Don McGlashan elected Fellow of IPENZ
Friday, 26 March 2004

Don McGlashan, Engineering Consultant, was elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for his contribution to the advancement of engineering practice; specifically recognising his innovation in the use of pre-stressed concrete.

He joined the pre-cast industry when it was in its infancy, and has been instrumental in keeping New Zealand practice at least as good as that elsewhere in the world. He has been hands-on to ensure that pre-cast long span concrete structures manufactured under his management have been constructed to the highest quality standard. Later in his career he took a troubleshooting role, using his experience to resolve difficult technical issues on a number of sites. He has been a quiet achiever, and engineer of absolute reliability throughout a long career.

“Receiving a Fellowship carries substantial prestige. It is not a reward for long service or for advancement in seniority with one’s employer, rather it is recognition by IPENZ of the contribution of outstanding individuals,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.

Don was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held in Christchurch at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, on Thursday, 25 March 2004.
