David Wilkie elected Fellow of IPENZ
Friday, 26 March 2004

David Wilkie, engineering consultant, was elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for his contribution to innovation in the creation of engineering works; specifically recognising his contribution to the development of skifield technology.

David has a long career of excellent service on key infrastructure projects including the Otira Viaduct. He has been a pioneer in engineering skifield technology, especially in the development of snow making facilities, and in ensuring that infrastructure to handle larger numbers of people in difficult climatic conditions has been properly designed. He is also involved with the education of young people through his work at the University of Canterbury.

“Receiving a Fellowship carries substantial prestige. It is not a reward for long service or for advancement in seniority with one’s employer, rather it is recognition by IPENZ of the contribution of outstanding individuals,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.

David was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held in Christchurch at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, on Thursday, 25 March 2004.
