Conan Fee elected Fellow of IPENZ
Friday, 26 March 2004

Dr Conan Fee, Chairperson Department of Materials and Process Engineering, University of Waikato, was elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for his contribution to advancement of engineering knowledge and technological education; specifically recognising his research contribution in the area of bio-separations and his role in developing innovative teaching methods integrating design across the Waikato BE programme.

Conan is a clear and innovative thinker who has tackled a variety of important industrial separations problems in his research. He has been able to develop new insights across very diverse applications areas. Additionally, he has been a key player in the development of BE programmes at Waikato University, and his innovation in teaching methods has contributed to his students winning several national student awards for design and vacation work during the early days of the offering of the new qualification.

“Receiving a Fellowship carries substantial prestige. It is not a reward for long service or for advancement in seniority with one’s employer, rather it is recognition by IPENZ of the contribution of outstanding individuals,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.

Conan was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held in Christchurch at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, on Thursday, 25 March 2004.
