LIVING IN SPACE
NASA Flight Engineer gives free IPENZ lecture in Christchurch

Don Pettit’s address for almost six months last year was c/o International Space Station, Expedition 6. He was the Flight Engineer and Science Officer onboard the orbital outpost, where he successfully completed two space walks.

He was onboard during the space shuttle Columbia accident in February, 2003, which meant his stay was delayed another two months. Don is currently training for another mission to the International Space Station, probably for 2005.

The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) is fortunate to host this free lunchtime lecture, where the public can hear about life at NASA, living in space, and what makes engineering important to space programmes.

Date: Thursday, June 10
Time: 12 noon – 2.00pm
Venue: Rm E9 The University of Canterbury
ALL WELCOME TO FREE LECTURE

Pettit earned a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Arizona in 1983. He worked for 13 years at Los Alamos National Laboratory before NASA selected him to be an astronaut in 1996.
