Trevor Butler elected Fellow of IPENZ
Friday, 26 March 2004

Trevor Butler, Managing Director, Frame Group Ltd, was elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for his contribution to advancement of engineering practice, specifically recognising his contribution to development of guidelines, standards and systems for asset management and safety in both forest and conservation areas.

Trevor has made an outstanding contribution to the development and implementation of standards for outdoor visitor facilities such as viewing platforms, pedestrian bridges and formed tracks. He has developed and promoted practices that have significantly increased safety and user appreciation. The early stages of this work were performed in an environment in which the need for good engineering practice was not widely recognised, and he demonstrated the ability to work alongside non-engineers to achieve outcomes supporting the public good. In doing so he has promoted the engineering profession to the point where those managing forest and conservation areas see Engineering as an essential component of their asset management system.

“Receiving a Fellowship carries substantial prestige. It is not a reward for long service or for advancement in seniority with one’s employer, rather it is recognition by IPENZ of the contribution of outstanding individuals,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.

Trevor was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held in Christchurch at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, on Thursday, 25 March 2004.
