Peter Higgs elected Fellow of IPENZ
Friday, 26 March 2004

Peter Higgs, General Manager Perry Environmental Ltd, was elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for his contribution to advancement of engineering practice; specifically recognising his contribution to environmental engineering and sustainability.

Peter continually challenges the norm looking for innovative ways to effectively manage waste in a sustainable manner. He has been a leader in turning organic waste recovery from a small-scale concept into a viable and sustainable industry. He was a founder of the Waste Management Institute of NZ and was Chair of the NZ Landfill Association. He has contributed as a lead author to development of landfill guidelines, and has been a tireless worker behind the scenes for the public good.

“Receiving a Fellowship carries substantial prestige. It is not a reward for long service or for advancement in seniority with one’s employer, rather it is recognition by IPENZ of the contribution of outstanding individuals,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.

Peter was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held in Christchurch at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, on Thursday, 25 March 2004.
