| Media Release Dr Nigel Priestley - 2004 Supreme Technical Award Dr Nigel Priestley, a Fellow of the Institution, and an Emeritus Professor of Structural Engineering at the University of California at San Diego, and co-director, European School for Advanced Studies in Reduction of Seismic Risk, Pavia, Italy has won the Buildings and Structures category of the 2004 IPENZ Supreme Technical Awards for Engineering Achievers, sponsored by Opus International Consultants. This category includes the design and construction of buildings and structures (including any associated geotechnical, structural, and building services engineering work). Dr Priestley’s research is focused on the seismic design of concrete and masonry structures, and on seismic design philosophy. He has published more than 650 books, technical papers and reports, mainly related to seismic design, and has received more than 30 international awards for his research. There are eight categories of the Supreme Technical awards which were presented at the Awards Dinner, during the IPENZ Convention at the Hotel Grand Chancellor in Christchurch on March 25.
