| Media Release John Lumsden elected Fellow of IPENZ John Lumsden, Projects Director, Centre for Advanced Engineering, University of Canterbury, was elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for his contribution to advancement of engineering practice; specifically recognising his leadership in development of coastal engineering practice in New Zealand. John was one of the first coastal engineers to see the need to go underwater, and a feature of his work has been the integration of coastal and ocean sciences into engineering decisions concerning the coastal zone. He has also played a major role in the interests of the public good as the project manager for the Centre for Advanced Engineering in which role he has led a variety of important projects in matters as diverse as risk management, sustainability, energy supply and wider infrastructure. His service to the NZ Coastal Society and IPENZ has been exemplary. “Receiving a Fellowship carries substantial prestige. It is not a reward for long service or for advancement in seniority with one’s employer, rather it is recognition by IPENZ of the contribution of outstanding individuals,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland. John will be presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner
held in Christchurch at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, on Thursday, 25 March
