Professor John Boys - 2004 Supreme Technical Award

Professor John Boys, a Distinguished Fellow of the Institution, former Head of Electrical and Computing Engineering at the University of Auckland, has won the Electrical Systems (including Automation, Control and Engineering Management Systems)
category of the 2004 IPENZ Supreme Technical Awards for Engineering Achievers, sponsored by Opus International Consultants.

John’s scholastic and academic career is littered with prizes and scholarships including The Royal Society of New Zealand’s Award for Outstanding Developments in Technology and the IPENZ President’s Award. He has published over 50 papers in international refereed journals and has his name on more than 20 US and New Zealand Patents. John has also served as President of the Auckland Branch of IPENZ and for many years on the Institutions Council.

The Electrical Systems category covers that part of engineering involved in the design, manufacture and operation of plant, equipment and systems using electrical engineering. It includes automation and control, and electrical generation, transmission and utilisation.

There are eight categories of the Supreme Technical awards which were presented at the Awards Dinner, during the IPENZ Convention at the Hotel Grand Chancellor in Christchurch on March 25.
