Ian Brewer elected Fellow of IPENZ
Friday, 26 March 2004

Ian Brewer, Standards Development project manager, Standards New Zealand Ltd, was elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for his contribution to the advancement of engineering practice; specifically recognising his leading role in development of concrete standards.

He has been influential in the development of a wide range of New Zealand Standards, and has done much to ensure commonality of New Zealand Standards with international ones. He initiated a suite of earth building standards that were a world first at the time. He is a long time member of Engineers for Social Responsibility and is passionate to ensure that the engineering profession acts ethically and responsibly towards the communities it serves.

“Receiving a Fellowship carries substantial prestige. It is not a reward for long service or for advancement in seniority with one’s employer, rather it is recognition by IPENZ of the contribution of outstanding individuals,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.

Ian was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held in Christchurch at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, on Thursday, 25 March 2004.
