Geoff Hunt elected Fellow of IPENZ
Friday, 26 March 2004

Geoff Hunt, Managing Director Alstom T & D New Zealand Ltd, was elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for his contribution to innovation in the creation of engineering works; specifically recognising his contribution to establishing reliable utility outsourcing arrangements, and in making a major contribution to solving the 1998 Auckland CBD electricity outage.

Geoff conceived the idea of a Penrose to city centre transmission line and oversaw the expenditure of $7.5m in 18 days to successfully restore supply, an outstanding project. In a broader sense, he has established new ways in which utility suppliers can outsource what were previously considered core activities in maintenance and refurbishment. He has a strong commitment to education and development of competence, having chaired the Board of the Testing Laboratory Registration Council (Telarc), and been actively involved with industry training organisations and engineering accreditation activities.

“Receiving a Fellowship carries substantial prestige. It is not a reward for long service or for advancement in seniority with one’s employer, rather it is recognition by IPENZ of the contribution of outstanding individuals,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.

Geoff was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held in Christchurch at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, on Thursday, 25 March 2004.
