IPENZ promotes Five Fellows to the class of
Distinguished Fellows

Five Fellows were promoted to the class of Distinguished Fellow of The
Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for their eminent
contribution to the profession of engineering.
Associate Professor Alex Sutherland,
Dean of the School of Engineering at the University of Canterbury.
Bob Kingston, retired consulting engineer
of Kingston, Reynolds Thom and Allardice (KRTA).
Bob Henare, Chairman of Capital and Coast
District Health Board
Richard Bentley, former CEO and
now board member of NGC Holdings Limited
Emeritus Professor Gordon Bogle - the
first Professor and Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering
for the University of Auckland’s School of Engineering in 1953.
“Distinguished Fellowships are given to those Fellows who are identified
by their outstanding work in engineering, technology, science or otherwise,
said IPENZ Deputy Chief Executive, John Gardiner.
They were honoured at the IPENZ Awards Dinner, held in Christchurch at
the Hotel Grand Chancellor, last night (Thursday, 25 March 2004).
A Distinguished Fellow is a Member who is recognized for his or her eminent
contribution to one or more of the following areas:
- advancement of engineering knowledge
- advancement of engineering practice
- application of engineering or technology for the community
- advancement of technological education
- innovation in creation of engineering works
- innovation in creation of technological products
- leadership in the profession of engineering
- development of the Institution
