Adam Thornton elected IPENZ Fellow
Friday, 26 March 2004

Adam Thornton, Dunning Thornton Consultants Ltd, was elected a Fellow of The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) for his contribution to leadership in the profession of engineering; specifically recognising his leadership in the consulting engineering industry.

Adam’s citation noted that he ‘has a strong reputation as a structural engineer, with a particular talent for understanding the strengthening of older buildings, but it is in his clear thinking approach to industry-wide issues that he most makes his mark. He is a believer in excellence and the setting of high standards in the profession having been involved for several years on a Standards Committee. His leadership ability has been recognised by his elevation to the presidency of ACENZ, and he is an excellent communicator to the media and others on their behalf. On top of this commitment, he agreed to serve on the 2003 IPENZ Structural Engineering Taskforce, and contributed strongly to development of their recommendations’.

“Receiving a Fellowship carries substantial prestige. It is not a reward for long service or for advancement in seniority with one’s employer, rather it is recognition by IPENZ of the contribution of outstanding individuals,” said IPENZ Chief Executive, Andrew Cleland.

Adam was presented with his Fellowship at the IPENZ Awards Dinner held in Christchurch at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, on Thursday, 25 March 2004.
