Student Membership - Becoming part of your future profession

What is IPENZ?
First and foremost we are the “home” of engineers and technologists in New Zealand. We set and maintain the engineering education and practice standards. These are nationally and internationally benchmarked, through the IPENZ engineering degree accreditation system, international agreements and registration processes. Members are governed by the IPENZ Rules, Code of Ethics, Disciplinary Procedures and Continuing Professional Development (CPD). CPD policy ensures our Members contribute to and support the engineering profession and always strive to maintain or enhance their competence.

IPENZ provides Competency Development Programmes that monitor on-the-job learning for young engineers; and liases with engineering education and training providers and industry groups that employ engineers.

IPENZ endorses organisations that have systems in place that support young engineers in the early years of their career development, through the Endorsed Employer Programme. For more information visit the IPENZ website www.ipenz.org.nz

IPENZ has links with a wide range of technical groups to which you may belong. These technical groups provide discussion and dissemination of the latest technical information in specialist areas. Your local IPENZ branch, which you automatically belong to, holds regular meetings at which the professional development needs of members are met. As well as providing an opportunity for input into the future focus and direction of IPENZ, branches also allow you the chance to network with experienced engineers.

IPENZ also celebrates engineering achievements through the presentation of awards and scholarships.

IPENZ actively promotes engineering within schools and the wider community through the Neighbourhood Engineers Programme and Futureintech.

We monitor legislation affecting the profession and make representations to the Government where your future interests and welfare are likely to be involved.

Who is eligible for IPENZ Student Membership?
IPENZ Student Membership is open to all students who are currently studying engineering at a New Zealand tertiary institution. Students undertaking a 2 year engineering diploma, 3 year engineering degree or 4 year engineering degree are eligible to apply.
