About Joining

Joining an IPENZ Membership Class
IPENZ membership is open to those with training and competence in engineering, and also those with an interest in engineering who may not necessarily have engineering training or qualifications.

Graduate engineers who hold a recognised engineering qualification are eligible for Graduate Membership – GIPENZ

IPENZ also has a competence based membership class for each of the three engineering occupational groups within the wider engineering profession – professional engineers (Professional Membership - MIPENZ), engineering technologists (Technical Membership - TIPENZ) and engineering technicians (Associate Membership - AIPENZ).

IPENZ Members enjoy professional standing, that is, the respect of their peers.

Applying for a Current Competence Register
IPENZ also administers current competence registers for professional engineers, engineering technologists and engineering technicians.   Registration on a current competence register provides employers, regulators and purchasers of engineering services with an independent assessment of the engineer’s current competence to do engineering work at a particular level of complexity.

Engineers can join IPENZ as a Professional, Technical or Associate Member and be registered on a relevant current-competence register. Applicants wanting both need only undertake a single assessment.

You can book yourself a space on a round by viewing the timetable then clicking on the round you wish to select. You will be given full details of the round and then be asked to enter your contact details so that reminders can be sent before the deadline .

More information about each of the three engineering roles and the associated qualifications and quality marks is available in the booklet engineering edge .
