IPENZ is committed to encouraging and supporting engineers at every stage
of their career.
Promoting engineering to students
IPENZ raises the profile of engineering and promotes the varied and rewarding
careers it offers through such initiatives as:
Futureintech
- which provides the student, the teacher, the caregiver, and the careers
advisor, with the tools, insight, and advice you need to discover the
vast range of careers out there.
Transpower Neighbourhood Engineers
Awards - where teachers, students and engineers work together to
respond to an identified need or opportunity in their school or local
community. There are substantial cash prizes, including $2,000 for category
winners.
Before entering the engineering workforce it is necessary to attain a
qualification, many of New Zealand's engineering qualifications are IPENZ
accredited.
IPENZ accredited
- means they have met international benchmarked standards and will be
recognised by other countries.
Students studying engineering in New Zealand can join IPENZ and begin
to benefit from IPENZ student membership.
After graduation
Once graduated eligiblity for graduate membership is available, this opens
up the full range of IPENZ services. IPENZ offers specific support for
new engineers.
IPENZ Professional Development Partners – This replaces the old IPENZ Endorsed Employer Programme. Professional Development Partners (PDPs) work in partnership with IPENZ to develop and support their engineering staff at all stages of their careers, strengthen their business and support the wider engineering profession. A professional career requires a planned and structured approach to professional development which is best achieved with strong employer support.
Continuing Professional Development(CPD)
- IPENZ expects its members to keep their skills up to date throughout
their engineering career and provides services to help.
Short courses - IPENZ provides a range of short courses to support continuing professional development. Members can also use the web based CPD logging system to keep track of CPD and use as evidence when undergoing competence assessments such as those required for Professional Membership (MIPENZ) or Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng).
IPENZ recognises that engineers often travel
overseas and membership options are available for engineers overseas,
we even have a branch in London. Similarly, membership options are available
to engineers looking to take a career
break.
